Peace
Studies/Human Rights
The Political Science Department invites applications for a
tenure track position in peace research with an emphasis on
human rights at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in
August 2009. The department is keenly interested in hiring a
junior scholar actively engaged in the behavioral study of peace
research with a specialization in human rights. The successful
applicant will participate in and contribute to the department’s
research and teaching emphasis in the study of peace, democracy,
and human rights. Qualifications: Applicants must demonstrate
training in current theoretical and methodological approaches in
behavioral political science, and demonstrate an ability to
publish in mainstream refereed journals in political science and
specialized journals in peace research. Candidates must
demonstrate an ability to offer both general and research
graduate-level seminars and introductory and advanced
undergraduate classes in peace and human rights studies.
Candidates who have a Ph.D. in Political Science or are ABD in
Political Science are preferred. Setting: The University of
North Texas, located in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex, is the
third largest public institution in Texas, and the Department of
Political Science offers BA, MA/MS, and PhD degrees. Within the
last few years, the department has grown substantially both in

Middle East Politics

successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to publish
research in his or her area of specialty in high quality
refereed general and specialized political science journals. The
successful candidate must demonstrate a capacity to teach
courses at the undergraduate and graduate level across several
substantive areas bearing on Middle East politics and society.
These areas could include political institutions, social
movements, political economy, development, religious thought,
Islamic political thought, human rights, American foreign policy
toward the region, and peace and conflict processes and their
management. Candidates who have a Ph.D. in Political Science or

Judicial Politics
The Department of Political Science at the University of North
Texas invites applications to fill a tenure-track position at
the rank of Assistant Professor Position in public law, with a
focus on American or Comparative/International Politics. The
successful applicant will contribute to the Department’s mission
to enhance its already-strong reputation in the field of public
law. The position begins in August 2009. Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate an ability to publish in one or more
of the following areas: judicial process; quantitative,
experimental, or formal studies of judicial behavior;
jurisprudence; law and society, including civil rights policy;
international or supranational courts; and/or American and
Comparative/International legal systems. Candidates must
demonstrate an ability to offer both general and research
graduate-level seminars, and introductory and advanced
undergraduate classes in judicial politics, and demonstrate
strong methodological skills. Candidates who hold a Ph.D. in
Political Science or are ABD in Political Science are prefered.
The ability to secure outside grants, engage in
interdisciplinary research, provide mentoring to undergraduate
and graduate students, and assume leadership roles in the
