Valerie Martinez-Ebers is professor
of political science and past vice-president of the American Political
Science Association. Her teaching and research interests include: race,
ethnicity and politics; Latino politics; public policy; political
tolerance; and the politics of Rock-n-Roll. She is a co-principal
investigator for the Latino National Survey funded by Ford, Carnegie,
Russell Sage, Hewlett, Joyce, Rhode Island and National Science
Foundations. Many of Dr. Martinez’ publications are on the consequences
of education policy for minority students, but she also has
publications on Latino/a politics, women in politics, aging policy and
methods of survey research. Two of her most recent publications include
Politicas: Latina Public Officials in Texas and “Su Casa Es Nuestra
Casa: Latino Politics Research and the Development of American
Political Science,” published in the American Political Science Review.
She has a forthcoming 2008 book entitled, Perspectives on Race,
Ethnicity and Religion: Identity Politics in the United States. She
also is a co-author of “Should they dance with the one who brung ‘em?
Latinos and the 2008 Presidential Election,” which is a forthcoming
article in the October edition of PS.
