His research involves the study of judicial
decision making, with a particular focus on the role of
interest groups in the courts. Collins’s research
is motivated by the desire to apply interdisciplinary
approaches to the study of judicial choice and he has
a special interest in psychological theories of consistency.
The recipient of numerous research awards, his scholarship
has been published in American Politics Research, Journal
of Empirical Legal Studies, Journal of Politics, Justice
System Journal, Law & Social Inquiry, Law & Society
Review, Political Research Quarterly, and Publius: The
Journal of Federalism. He is also the author of Friends
of the Supreme Court: Interest Groups and Judicial Decision
Making (Oxford University Press).
