Director and Advisor International Studies Major University of North Texas 1999 to present;

I was the principle author of the proposal for the creation of an interdisciplinary Bachelor degree of International studies.

As the director for the International studies Major 2000-present, I have been active in recruiting students to the new Major. In 1999-2000, the major had 6 students. By the Spring of 2007, 396 students were enrolled in the major.

The Major has 6 areas of concentration: International Politics and Diplomacy, International Business and Economics, International Development, Security Studies, Peace Studies and Regional Studies including Africa and the Middle East, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

I chair the International studies academic Affairs Committee which consists of 18 faculty members representing 18 departments and majors which contribute courses to the Major. The Committee is responsible for the review of the six areas of concentrations of the Major requirements and the introduction of new areas for the Major. For additional details, see:

University Service Committee membership:

 

 

Member Faculty Senate University of North Texas 2004-2010;

 

Member the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate University of North Texas 2004-2007. 

 

Member of the Hispanic and Global studies committee. The committee drafted the policy guidelines for allocation of funds among competing proposals.

Member of the University Strategic Planning Committee 2005.

The committee identified the priorities for the University of North Texas in the areas of undergraduate and graduate education, research, scholarship, student’s enrollment and diversity, and graduation rate for the period 2006-2011. The committee also reviewed and evaluated the performance measures and strategies to achieve these goals.

 

 Member of the Instructional, Research and scholarship Sub-committee of the Strategic Planning Committee

 

Member of the Compliance Committee 2004-2006.  This committee verifies University of North Texas compliance with the requirements and regulations of the Southern Accreditation of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

 

Member of the International Education Committee2003-2009. This committee reviews and approves the Students and faculty exchange agreements which UNT concludes with other universities in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. It also promotes the internationalization of education at the university.

 

Member of the Committee on the Evaluation of Administrators 2003-2009;

 

Member and Chairman Faculty Senate Academic Affairs Committee 1999-2003. This committee reviews the admission requirements for UNT and UNT’s general academic policy and standards including freshman and transfer student’s requirements, standards for international student’s admission to UNT, students’ enrolment, retention, and graduation rate, grading system, grade appeal policy, and student’s diversity on campus among other things. During my last two years as the chairman of the Academic Affairs Committee 2001-2003, I took the initiative of putting on the agenda of the Academic Affairs Committee the following items: the plus-minus grading system, the online catalogue as the official catalogue for UNT, a new incomplete grade form to discourage students from requesting incomplete, and a new policy for awarding honorary degrees at UNT. The recommendations were approved by the Faculty Senate in its May 2003 meeting.

 

Member of the University Curriculum Committee 1997-2003. The committee approves all the new courses, degree plans, majors, and programs for the entire university.

 

Member of the disability Task Force for reviewing and assessing University of North Texas’s compliance with American Disability Act (ADA).
