Poe 's interests are in international human rights, peace studies, and American and comparative foreign policy. He is currently serving as Editor in Chief of International Studies Quarterly, the flagship journal of the International Studies Association. Poe has authored or co-authored articles in International Studies Quarterly, American Journal of Political Science, the Journal of Peace Research, Journal of Politics, International Interactions, American Politics Quarterly, Human Rights Quarterly, Social Science Quarterly, the American Political Science Review, the Journal of Politics, and several edited volumes. He is the co-editor (with Sabine C. Carey) of Understanding Human Rights Violations: New Systematic Studies. (Ashgate, 2004) and is currently writing a text on international human rights, entitled Human Rights and the Quest for Human Dignity, with Professor Carey. He is a long-time member of the Editorial Review Board of Human Rights Quarterly and is the recipient of a National Science Foundation grant to study the causes of repression. Poe is currently serving a term on the Board of Directors of the Center for Survivors of Torture in Dallas, Texas.
